Oxford United Stars Under 16s – 2
Glenavon Under 16s – 3
Templemore, Saturday 6th October 2012
The boys had an early start travelling away to Oxford United. To be fair the 1st half brought very few positives a lethargic 35 minutes from the boys and that accompanied by one of the worst pitches in N Ireland made very poor watching. That aside Oxford got on the score sheet first with the ball bouncing under the keeper. Glenavon struggled back with a ball from Luke McAnespie falling nice for Lee Newell to score the equaliser. Scrappy play continued with Oxford going into the interval 2-1 up.
In the Second half Glenavon looked more awake and started fighting for a win alot more positive play see the boys coming close on several occasions. A ball from Ollie Russell evaded the Oxford defence clipping Lee Newell nutmegging the keeper.
The boys started to step up the pressure with plenty of balls hitting the box but the winning goal appeared elusive. A fantastic overhead kick from Mark Sykes was clipped over the bar by a good goalkeeping save.
The winner finally came in the last 3 minutes when a ball from Jamie Rae fell in to the 6 yard box was cleared up by Lee Newell to give GFC another 3 points taking them top of the league. On reflection not a pretty game of football and although the pitch was the same for both teams it was certainly a game leveller. Much needed focus will be needed on Monday night if the boys want to retain their league position.

Glenavon Under 16s – 3
Dungannon United Under 16s – 2
Lurgan Junior High School 3G, Saturday 28th September 2012
After the disappointment of the previous Friday Glenavon wanted to make there mark and started strong, Jason Greenaway was welcomed back in to the back line. The game started off even with both sides equal until 15 minutes in Gary Lavery took on the defender slipping the ball to Ollie Russell who placed the ball from outside the box into the bottom right hand corner. Dungannon with ex player Shane McNamee bought the visitors back level. Glenavon had a few more chances before the interval but the 2nd goal came when a shot from Ollie Russell was defelected off the keeper and cleaned up by Jake McNeill.
The second half kicked off with Dungannon equalising early on in, Glenavon continued to work hard with Mark Sykes controlling in midfield and Jamie Rea dominant on the left side. Jamal Khalid made some busting runs and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet after running deep from his own half and shooting with the ball just going wide. In the final 10 minutes we see the winner with a text book pass from Gary Lavery through to Lee Newell who skinned the keeper to place the ball home giving the Lurgan Blues the 3 points. This sees us go 2nd in the table with a game in hand.

Glenavon Under 16s – 0
Crumlin Colts Under 16s – 1
Lurgan Junior High School 3G, Friday 21st September 2012
Newly promoted Crumlin came to Lurgan with high hopes after a good opening to the season and went away not dissapointed. Glenavon played some excellent football and made Crumlin ball chase for 70 minutes but unfortunatly conceded to a high ball over the top. Both teams pushed but on the night a goal was not forthcoming although Glenavon played the better football, at times we were just not aggresive enough going forward. To be fair this was a game of the Goalkeepers and both keepers kept there teams in the game.

Bertie Peacock Youth Under 16s – 2
Glenavon Under 16s – 3
Coleraine University, Saturday 15th September 2012
The boys travelled to Colraine University with a small squad to what is normally a physical encounter and today proved no different. Peacocks went 1 up after the 1st 20 minutes, Glenavon were quick to react with Jamie Rea making a good run down the left side and squaring a great ball in to the path of Ollie Russell who hit home to equalise. Glenavon were by far the better side in the 1st half and played some great football, the game went into the interval 1 a piece.
The second half was a slow start with Peacock’s putting on the pressure but Ryan Clarke in Goals stood the pressure well. Both sides were attacking well but Lee Newell took his chance well to put GFC ahead. Glenavon were demanding well and it was not long before a 3rd goal came when Jake McNeill slotted on home into the roof of the net. Jamal Khalid was strong in the back row and stood up well being aggravated by the Peacock strikers. Gary Lavery was always threatening the Peackock defence and had 2 good free kicks. Peacocks made a break in the last 5 with a shot that was deflected off our defence making the final score 3-2.

Maiden City Academy Under 16s – 1
Glenavon Under 16s – 4
Mallusk Playing Fields, Saturday 1st September 2012
Glenavon U16s kicked off their new season on Saturday 1 September ‘under new management’. Manager Colin Scott and coaches Tyson Gray and Gary Scott have taken on the role following the ‘promotion’ of John McDowell and Stevie Crowe to the senior set-up.
Their season started with a tricky away tie against Maiden City from Londonderry and the squad included four new signings. Jack Heaney, Simon Scott, Mark Sykes and Dalton Tate were all making their debuts for the under 16s and what a debut it proved for Dalton Tate.
Dalton marked his first appearance in a Glenavon shirt with a hat trick in a very impressive 4-1 win. Glenavon were very solid at the back and dominant in midfield and this formed the basis for what in the end turned out to be a comfotable victory. Lee Newell rounded off the scoring for Glenavon to complete a successful start to the new season.
