Glenavon’s first away trip of the season takes them on Wednesday evening to the Warden Street Showgrounds to take on Ballymena United (kick off 7:45pm). Both sides having lost their opening day games, the respective managers will be looking for a response from their players.

Gary Hamilton felt that too few of his players showed the necessary hunger and desire against Cliftonville as he told Gary Ellis of the Lurgan Mail after Saturday’s game. “We did not win enough tackles. When you look at the stats Kevin Braniff made the third most tackles. To win against the top teams like Cliftonville, you have to work as hard as they do, if not harder.”

Ballymena lost 4-0 at Windsor Park on Saturday, two of the goals coming late in the second half after captain Jim Ervin was sent off for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity when he brought down Guy Bates.

James Singleton, who is still recovering from a neck injury, completes a two game ban carried over from last season. Ciaran Martyn remains out with a calf strain.

Recent Stats

Last season Glenavon won all three games between the sides, scoring ten goals and conceding four. Over the past three seasons in all competitions Glenavon has won 8, lost 2 and drawn one game against the Sky Blues.
