Hugh Dickson, in his first full game back from a fractured skull, had the first effort of the match in the 3rd minute when he put a back post header just wide from Stuart King’s free kick.

King went on a crossfield run from left to right  in the 17th minute before feeding the ball into Tony Grant on the edge of the area but the Glenavon striker drove his shot wide of Gavin Cullen’s goal. Three minutes later Mark Haughey played a ball down the left wing which Grant flicked cleverly on to Trevor Molloy. He attempted an audacious shot from all of 30 yards but it dipped too soon and was easily held by Cullen.

King had a goal-bound shot blocked in the 48th minute when Murray’s run and cross was miskicked by Grant but fell nicely for the winger.

Kevin Ramsey then ran onto a through ball by Ruairi McClean that caught out the Glenavon defence but he was put under pressure and his weak shot trickled against the base of the post before going out for a goal kick.

‘Stute substitute Paul Lowry’s 67th minute run and shot was deflected onto the roof of the net.

Another ‘Stute sub Stephen Parkhouse gave his side all three points with a goal in the 88th minute when he evaded a challenge as the ball was played through to him by Mark Scoltock and slotted a low shot into the opposite corner of Plummer’s net.

In the final minute Jay Magee could have grabbed an equaliser but he just failed to get an outstretched foot to King’s dangerous free kick into the Institute box.
