Domestic Licence Granted for Next Season

Filed under: Announcement — admin @ 5:44 pm

The Club Licensing Committee (First Instance Body) of the IFA has awarded Glenavon FC a Domestic Club Licence for the 2009-2010 Season. The Committee was satisfied that Glenavon FC had met all of the required standards for the award of a Domestic Club Licence.

Glenavon Chairman Adrian Teer expressed his thanks for all the hard work that has gone into the application procedures “The Directors, and hopefully the supporters, are well aware of the hours of hard, voluntary work put into our application by Company Secretary Harry Cherry and his small team of John Collen and Eric Taylor, supported by a number of board members. They all deserve enormous credit for their efforts and hearty congratulations and thanks in respect of our successful application.”

Glenavon FC also initially applied for a UEFA Licence but, once it was clear that qualification for a UEFA Competition was impossible, the Club did not pursue the UEFA Licence application any further in order to avoid the considerable expense that would have been involved in doing so.

Glenavon fans weren’t just celebrating a fourth home win on the trot on Saturday but quite a few ‘Buds’ were being sunk in honour of the fact that it was exactly 20 years to the day in 1989 when Glenavon famously beat Linfield 6-1 in the replayed final of the Budweiser Cup. Former manager Stevie McBride was on the scoresheet that night and Geoff Ferris scored a ‘brilliant’ hat trick to help end a trophy famine for the Lurgan Blues.
