Following the two recent meetings with the Board of Directors and supporters to explain in detail Glenavon’s current and projected financial difficulties, the “Mourneview Needs You” (MNY) fundraising initiative has been steadily gathering pace.

“The response since the meetings has been very encouraging and the club would hope to publish an ongoing list of those contributing to MNY on the club website – providing they are happy to be named” explains club chairman Adrian Teer.

“The Board feels those who attended the meetings now fully appreciate the club’s financial difficulties and understand that without a new, guaranteed and sustained source of income Glenavon could very well fail to satisfy the requirements for a IFA Domestic Licence and therefore cease to exist as a Premiership club. Quite simply, Glenavon Football Club cannot continue with yearly losses as in the past. Whilst granting our licence for 2012/13 the IFA has expressed concern at our projected losses following on from significant trading losses in 2010 and 2011 and actually directed the club to prioritise addressing its continued negative trading position moving forward.”

“For the sake of our club, the MNY scheme simply must succeed” said Mr Teer “It provides every supporter, regardless of his/her disposable income limits, with an opportunity to take part and help ensure the future stability of the club and support its ambitions. Therefore the Board appeals to supporters to join the scheme and to do so as soon as possible through the club office or any director or the link on the Club website.”

Mr Teer added “Unfortunately if MNY is not a success the Board of Directors elected at the forthcoming AGM on 12 June will have no option but to review all aspects of the club and take difficult decisions to ensure Glenavon becomes a stable business operating within its means and competing at a level of football within those means. Otherwise the IFA will insist that we do so.”

The MNY scheme enables supporters to make a regular monthly donation to Glenavon by way of direct debit, credit card or PayPal. The monthly donation can be payments of personal choice, eg £5, £10, £20, £50, £100 or other. A leaflet outlining the scheme is available from the club offices.

Following Gary Hamilton’s appointment of Paul Millar and with reductions in the budget for next year, it was unfortunately necessary to release former Assistant Manager Pat McAllister.

‘Packie’ made a point of speaking to your webmaster to express his thanks to everyone at the Club. “I’m disappointed to leave such a wonderful club but it’s something that was inevitable in the current financial climate and Gary of course wants to bring in his own staff and I understand that perfectly.

“I want to wish the Club every success in the future. I can honestly say that, from the Chairman right down to the ladies who serve the tea, it is the best Club I have ever been at. Everything is run 100% and the only thing lacking has been success on the pitch.

“I know a few people were not too happy with my appointment but I have made a lot of friends in my time at Mourneview and I’m sure we’ll remain friends in the future. If I’m not involved in football elsewhere, I’ll be dropping in to watch Glenavon play whenever I can.”

Glenavon has also completed the signings of Marc Brown and Robbie White from Larne.

Midfielder Brown, formerly with Glentoran, and former Linfield striker White who has become an accomplished centre back at Inver Park, have agreed one-year amateur contracts with the Lurgan Blues after recommendations from Glenavon’s Assistant manager Paul Millar who, until he joined Glenavon recently, was the manager of Larne.

Last week Kris Lindsay signed a one year deal and this week Brendan Shannon re-signed on a three year contract. Tony Grant, Conor Hagan, Kyle Neill and Mark Turkington have all re-signed on one year contracts and talks are ongoing regarding other signings and re-signings.

Mark Miskimmin, Cameron Grieve, Chris Lavery and Gerard Rooney have not had their contracts renewed and have been released.

Tickets are still on sale for this Friday’s Glenavon end of season Awards Dinner Dance, which will be held in the Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre.

Tickets (£25) are now on sale and can be purchased through the club offices, the Mourneview Aces Barber Shop or any club director.

Special guest on the evening will be Mourneview legend Dermot O’Neill, while there will be an auction on the evening for a signed Ian Rush shirt.

Anyone who can’t make the evening but who is interested in setting a reserve for the shirt should contact Eddie Drury on 07866 273306.

This signed Ian Rush shirt is up for auction at the Awards Dinner on Friday evening.

The Awards Dinner was re-introduced last year and the evening proved an outstanding success. It is the ideal opportunity for everyone connected with the club – supporters, players, management/coaching staff, stewards, directors etc to get together and sign-off the season in style with a three course meal, dancing to “Suckin’ Diesel” and the presentation of the various Player of the Year awards.

Further to the Board of Directors meeting with supporters last Saturday, the further meeting which was agreed upon has been arranged for Wednesday evening at 7pm in the Bedeck Suite at Mourneview Park.

All Glenavon followers are requested to attend this highly significant meeting which will:

- enable those who did not attend the meeting on Saturday 28 April to be fully briefed concerning the club’s financial situation and also its urgent resource issues

- provide further and updated financial and other significant information for those who attended the original meeting

- increase awareness about the “Mourneview Needs You!” fundraising scheme and give supporters the opportunity to join it

- allow supporters to consider the diverse range of opportunities available to play an active and valued role in club affairs

The original meeting and next Wednesday’s will play a key part in assisting the Board to determine the immediate way forward for Glenavon Football Club and also to shape the club’s longer term strategy. It is absolutely crucial that all those who support the club demonstrate their concern and commitment by being present at Wednesday’s meeting. The immediate and long term future of Glenavon as a Premiership club is at stake and everyone needs to rally round the club at this most critical time.

The turnout last Saturday’s was very encouraging and hopefully there will be an even larger attendance on Wednesday.

Please be there on Wednesday evening at 7pm!

Glenavon Football Club is delighted to announce that the club has been granted a Domestic Licence for next season’s IFA Premiership campaign.

In a letter from the IFA’s Head of Club Licencing and Facilities, David McVeigh, local football’s governing body said they were satisfied that the club had “met all of the required standards for the award of a Domestic Club Licence.”

Mr McVeigh also praised the efforts of those involved in putting together the application and congratulated them on their success.

However, following on from Saturday’s meeting with supporters, there was a warning from the IFA regarding the club’s current financial position: “The committee did express its concern at the projected substantial losses, following on from significant trading losses in 2010 and 2011, and would direct the club to prioritise addressing this continued negative trading position moving forward.”

Failure to do so could see the club being required to take part in a monthly financial monitoring process by the Club Licencing Committee.

The club would like to place on record its thanks to all involved in ensuring our successful application.
