As PSV Eindhoven celebrates its 100th Anniversary this year, the famous Dutch Club has decided to organize a special edition of their international Youth Tournament, better known as the “PSV Youth Tournament for the Otten Cup”.
In his invitation to Glenavon Ron Verkerk, the Chairman of the Board of Eindhoven Football Club PSV writes ”In this special edition we will invite our international opponents during the seasons 1977-1978 and 1987-1988 in which we won respectively the UEFA Cup and the Europa Cup I.”
“Since Glenavon FC was one of our opponents in the season 1977-1978 we very much would like your youth team U19 to be one of the participants of the “Otten Cup 2013 – Special Edition”. Of course we have also invited the other opponents of that season: SC Bastia, FC Barcelona, FC Magdeburg, Eintracht Braunschweig and Widzew ?ód?. Besides that we have invited all opponents of the season 1987-1988: SL Benfica, Real Madrid CF, FC Girondins de Bordeaux, FK Rapid Wien and Galatasaray A?.”
This 67th edition of the tournament will be held on Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of August 2013 and with the host Club paying all the visiting teams expenses, Glenavon has agreed to send an Under 19 team to take part in the tournament.
In accepting PSV’s invitation, Glenavon Chairman Adrian Teer replied to Ron Verkerk “This is a wonderful gesture and Glenavon will be delighted to accept the invitation. There are still quite a number of us at Glenavon including myself who have fond memories of our home and away UEFA Cup games against PSV back in 1977 and it will be exciting for our clubs to renew friendships.”
Congratulations to Jason Greenaway and Andrew Hoey who played for NI U 16s today in their 2-1 victory over the Faroe Islands. Andrew came off the bench to score both goals.
